Exhibits

Recently we have begun to host an exhibit of members work every 3 years. The location is a large, spacious room at the Nova Scotia Archives on University Avenue. The exhibit usually runs for a month and we always provide demonstrations of weaving and spinning as well as educational displays. We have 13 categories that can be entered -

Weaving

  • Household item - woven
  • Blanket / Throw - woven
  • Rug - woven
  • Garment - woven
  • Accessory - woven
  • Tapestry / hanging - woven
  • Woven article using recycled material
  • Woven interlacement - not made on a shaft loom. i.e. kumihimo, inkle, card, bead looms
  • Woven article with handspun in collaboration with another member

Spinning

  • Article using your own handspun yarn, any technique.
  • Skein of handspun 100% wool yarn
  • Skein of handspun yarn using wool blend or other fibre
  • Skein of handspun yarn using special or novelty techniques.

First, second and third ribbons are presented in each category. The Mary Black Award for Excellence in Weaving and the Joan Thorne Award for Excellence in Spinning are awarded by the judges. A People’s Choice award is determined by visitors' votes.
